How Missing XI Works

Missing XI hands you a real team sheet from an iconic football match and asks you to fill in every starter. Each day features a new fixture: a Champions League final, a title decider, a famous upset, or a match that only feels iconic once you remember who was on the pitch. You see the formation, the competition, the date and the opponent. The eleven names are yours to find.

Tap any position and start typing. Correct answers lock into their place in the formation instantly, and you can attack the XI in any order: work down the spine from the goalkeeper, or start with the striker everybody remembers and reason backwards to the full-backs nobody does. Surnames are enough, and close spellings are accepted.

The deep pleasure of Missing XI is how memory of a match actually works. Almost everyone recalls seven or eight starters straight away. The last few are where the game lives: the injury replacement, the defensive midfielder who did his job quietly, the left-back who never made another final. Getting to eleven means genuinely reconstructing the day.

Signed-in players keep their solve history and times, and can work back through the archive of past fixtures. A new XI is revealed every day.
